Ryther’s newest program REACH First (Ryther Early Assessment for
Children First), works directly with the Washington State Children’s
Administration to provide an in-depth assessment of a child’s needs when
the child and family becomes involved in the child protection services
(CPS) system. REACH First assessments include:
- Extensive clinical interviews with both child and parent(s)/caregiver(s)
- Interviews with other support people and professionals
involved in the child and family’s lives
- Completion of a variety of standardized assessments, dependent
on the child’s presenting issues
- Completion of the Parent Stress Index (PSI) for the parent(s)
- Availability of a psychological and/or psychiatric evaluation as
necessary for a complete assessment
The Goal of Reach First is to determine the needs of the child within
their family and provide practical recommendations to address those
needs as quickly as possible to greatly reduce the stress and trauma for
children and families already enduring tough times.
