Ryther Challenge

The Ryther Challenge
The Challenge | A Challenge Day | Experiential Learning | The Ryther Team | Testimonials

Course Director, Dennis Grove

Dennis has demonstrated natural leadership and has honed his sense of timing through years of working with varied clientele.  He overcomes resistance to training and develops rapport with even the most skeptical client with a comfortable and flexible style that emphasizes understanding and humor.

Dennis is quick to identify and pursue creative moments which tie the learning experience back to the workplace.  He works hard to ensure that each group reaches their goals while working in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

Dennis' Philosophy

  • Participants learn best when they are in a safe supportive atmosphere where appropriate risks can be taken.
  • All participants are encouraged to push their perceived limits, but make their own choice about what they are ready for
  • Participants enter their “learning zone” when they challenge themselves to a point outside their comfort zone, without going to panic or fear
  • Participants who can be playfully challenged tend to be less defensive and more open to learning
  • Participants can learn about challenge in the workplace from the way they approach challenge in this program

Ryther's CEO, Lee Grogg

Lee has twenty-five years in senior management as a chief executive and as a consultant.

Years of working with and teaching continuous quality improvement concepts at line employee levels allow him to successfully articulate the connection between good team functioning and desired outcomes.

Lee's Philosophy

  • Lee believes that experiential learning can be a consistent source of those "AH HA" moments of realization, insight and inspiration that fundamentally change how people and teams work.

  • There are people whose motivation or morale is low who can go to a seminar and remain bored and unengaged. I've never seen anyone stay unengaged or bored in an experiential learning process. It is impossible to remain detached.  It is impossible to remain bored and unengaged.  It is impossible to NOT learn something of value.

Lee's Background

Wabash College - Bachelor of Science
Indiana University - Masters of Social Work (MSW)
Notre Dame - Masters of Business Administration (MBA)

Lee has thirty years of management experience in the healthcare industry as an executive and consultant.  He has held volunteer business community leadership positions and received recognition for his contribution for his contributions outside the workplace.  Professionally, Lee is noted for his entrepreneurial, innovative, bottom-line oriented approaches as well as his ability to create and forge alliances and collaborations.

The Ryther Challenge was launched in 2002 with significant help of a group of volunteers from the Leadership of Tomorrow program.
