Centered: Ryther’s family-centered approach
to treatment is an important component of the healing process. We
seek to build relationships with everyone who interacts with the
children and youth in our care to help them learn appropriate ways
of providing needed support.
Interdisciplinary
Teams: Many children and youth who come to Ryther
have co-occurring disorders. To address this, Ryther has developed
inter-disciplinary teams. For example, young people in treatment
for chemical dependency often benefit from the expertise of mental
health professionals on staff.
Experiential
Learning: Ryther’s programs utilize experiential
learning activities designed to place children and youth in challenging
yet safe situations. These activities help to build a sense of self-worth
as obstacles are overcome. Solving problems cooperatively with other
members of a group helps to develop feelings of trust. These dramatically
positive experiences are often far more effective in promoting healing
than any amount of verbal encouragement from adults might be.
Ryther’s
Campus: Ryther’s 10-acre, tree-shaded campus provides
a stimulating and nurturing environment for the children who live
and receive services here. The four cottages on the campus and two
in an adjacent neighborhood offer a homelike setting where children
have their own rooms and share family-style meals with their housemates.
The cottages are arranged around an open meadow that creates an
inviting space for outdoor activities. A covered play area makes
it possible for children to get plenty of exercise and play even
during inclement weather.
Ryther Child
Center is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services
for Families and Children, Inc. and is a member agency of the Child
Welfare League of America, American Association of Children’s
Residential Centers, and United Way of King County. |
