Aspiring Youth Program Counselor 1


The Aspiring Youth Program provides school-year social groups and individual coaching for youth needing support to navigate their social worlds. The program serves youth ages 5-18 from the neurodiverse community, many of whom have diagnoses including Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and social anxiety. The Program Counselor 1 provides direct supervision to participants in groups, assisting the Program Counselor 2 in implementation of the curriculum. In addition, the Program Counselor 1 may provide individual coaching to clients. The Program Counselor 1 receives training and supervision from lead staff members.


  • Provide supervision for clients in social groups and/or individual coaching.

  • Implement experiential group activities/exercises which may include creative arts, tabletop or virtual games, sports-based programming, or other connection-focused activities, based on experience.

  • Maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries with clients, families, co-workers and community resources.

  • Maintain case records in accordance with licensing, accreditation and agency requirements.

  • Promote effective teamwork, cooperation and communication among program personnel.

  • Maintain all necessary credentials per agency and licensing requirements.

  • Arrange administrative supervision as appropriate.

  • Demonstrate a high degree of skill in communication and positive interaction with all Ryther employees, prospective employees, external agencies/companies, and the community at large.

  • Perform all other tasks as assigned.

  • Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, cultural, and spiritual practices.

  • 21 years of age.

  • Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral sciences.

  • Two years of experience working with children and adolescents. Experience working with Autism, ADHD or clients from similar population preferred.

  • Valid Washington state driver's license.

  • Ability to maintain awareness of culturally relevant issues while interacting with clients, families, co-workers and community resources.

  • Ability to work within a strengths-based model.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain customer and employee confidentiality.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer word processing skills.

  • Ability to perform a range of physical motions including but not limited to:

    • lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.,

    • standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time,

    • kneeling, squatting, and stooping,

    • running for brief periods of time,

  • Ability to use the senses of sight, hearing to effectively supervise clients

PAY: $18 - $28/hr
