PHP Behavior Specialist 1


Provide a consistent therapeutic milieu through direct care and supervision of adolescents receiving day treatment. Engage youth with high support needs in evidence-based treatment using a trauma-informed and DEI framework.

  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of the program structure and routines.

  • Facilitate and support all daily program activities, including skills groups, meals and snacks, and outings. 

  • Assist clients to gain coping skills, manage eating disorder behaviors, and regulate emotions.

  • Assist with bathroom monitoring, including flush checks.

  • Maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries and awareness in regards to clients, families, co-workers, and community resources, etc.

  • Consistently role model appropriate behaviors, emotions, and communication skills, i.e., anger management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

  • Utilize verbal de-escalation skills to support client regulation.

  • Implement policy and procedure during crisis intervention, including utilizing ARC and equity lens.

  • Aid clients in reaching goals and objectives as outlined by milieu program, individual treatment plans, behavior management plans, and individualized treatment programs through therapeutic interventions.

  • Approach families in a manner consistent with agency and program philosophy, treatment plans, placement plans, and individual treatment programs.

  • Complete and maintain all required documentation pertaining to milieu, i.e., daily logs, group notes, meal support notes, incident reports, etc.

  • Utilize agency policies when responding to emergencies.

  • Attend and participate in scheduled shifts, staff meetings, program development meetings, trainings, and staff retreats.

  • Promote effective teamwork, cooperation, and communication among program personnel.

  • Participate in in-house orientation and additional training sessions as needed to increase professional.

  • Seek and/or utilize feedback provided by supervisors for professional development.

  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting facility safety concerns to appropriate staff.

  • Maintain all necessary credentials per agency and licensing requirements.

  • Demonstrate a high degree of skill in communication and positive interaction with all Ryther employees, prospective employees, external agencies/companies, and the community at large.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • 21 years of age.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (MH field beneficial) or high school education/GED with at least one year combination of experience and training working with children, youth, and/or families, preferably in a mental health related setting.

  • Ability to maintain awareness of culturally relevant issues while interacting with clients, families, co-workers, and community members.

  • Ability to work within a strengths-based model.

  • Knowledge and understanding of family-centered practice principles.

  • Valid Washington state driver's license.  Full-time Behavior Specialists must have the ability to drive agency vehicles and have a good driving record.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain customer and employee confidentiality.

  • Ability to work within the framework of a therapeutic milieu.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexibility and ability to work a varied schedule including evenings and holidays.

  • Ability to perform verbal de-escalation and physical intervention restraints.

  • Ability to perform a range of physical motions including but not limited to:

    • lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.;

    • standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time;

    • kneeling, squatting, and stooping;

    • running for brief periods of time

  • Ability to use the senses of sight & hearing to effectively supervise adolescents.

PAY: $22.90 - $25/hr
