INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT DBT
The IOP DBT program serves youth 13-18 with acute mental health needs. This program lasts 12 weeks and requires participants to be on-site a minimum of 4 days per week with three days of 3-hour groups (4-7 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays) and at least one individual session (Tuesdays or Fridays for 50 minutes) per week. Be aware that all services take place at our Main Campus in North Seattle. Intake will need to take place prior to the first session. This program is a good fit for youth who are experiencing suicidal ideation, self-harm, school avoidance/failure, chronic interpersonal deficits, and low self-worth or have a history of hospitalization or residential treatment because of these issues are appropriate. This program is not appropriate for children who are highly aggressive or oppositional as well as those who have a low verbal ability or are moderately to severely developmentally delayed as the curriculum requires the ability to focus for a period of time and process verbal information relatively quickly and accurately.
DBT – Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of depression and suicidal ideation. It has been shown to also reduce symptoms of impulsivity and emotion dysregulation while increasing prosocial skills and distress tolerance.
Referrals for all gendered adolescents struggling with:
Difficulty regulating emotions
Those unsuccessful in outpatient therapy alone
Those stepping down from inpatient
About DBT Skills Groups: The three-hours skills groups engage participants through skills acquisition, discussion and activity focused on four main areas; mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Groups allow participants to practice their interpersonal effectiveness skills under the supervision of a trained therapist.
About Individual Sessions: Individual sessions will focus on the generalization of skills. Participants will report progress on diary cards and troubleshoot skills use with their individual Ryther therapist.
