Expanding the Continuum of Care for Youth

At Ryther, we are constantly asking: What do young people need—and where are the gaps in care?

Across our region, youth mental health needs continue to grow, while access to appropriate levels of care remains limited. In particular, services that bridge the gap between outpatient therapy and hospitalization—such as Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization (PHP)—are among the hardest to access. For many families, especially those navigating more complex needs or relying on Medicaid, these options are simply not available.

Without the right level of care at the right time, young people often end up in emergency rooms or remain hospitalized longer than necessary—not because it’s the best place for healing, but because there are few alternatives.

Ryther is working to change that.

Strengthening the Continuum of Care

Our approach is rooted in building a stronger, more connected continuum of care—one that supports youth as they move between levels of treatment and ensures they receive the support they need, when they need it.

By expanding access to IOP and PHP services, Ryther is helping to:

  • Provide meaningful alternatives to hospitalization

  • Support smoother transitions from higher levels of care

  • Reduce reliance on emergency departments

  • Increase access for youth who have historically had the fewest options

This work complements and strengthens the broader behavioral health system—working alongside hospitals, outpatient providers, and community partners to ensure youth are not falling through the gaps.

A New Space to Support Growing Needs

To support this expansion, Ryther has transformed a former school building on our campus into the Enrichment Center—a dedicated space designed for intensive outpatient care.

This renovation allows us to serve hundreds more youth each year in a safe, welcoming environment built specifically for healing and connection.

We are especially grateful to Senator Javier Valdez and Representatives Darya Farivar and Gerry Pollet for their leadership and support of this project, and to the taxpayers of Washington State, whose investment is helping expand access to critical mental health care for youth in our community.

Join Us in Celebrating!

We invite you to join us on Friday, April 24 from 3:00–4:30 PM for a ribbon cutting and on-campus celebration of the Enrichment Center.

This will be a brief, meaningful gathering with short remarks, a ribbon cutting, and time to connect and explore the space.

Together, we are strengthening the continuum of care—and creating new pathways for youth and families to heal and thrive.
